What is the best plan of action to restoring a 1968 Chevy Camaro?

Don H asked:

My camaro was sort of bastardized. It has a sunroof (ugh), the interior is gone (as it should be, with a 40 year old car), there is the typical rust in the common areas (rear quarters, under the windshields front and back, trunk, etc), and the floor was cut to fit a 4 speed shifter and the hole is gaping.

Anyone have any advice as far as what steps to take first? I am a weekend mechanic and thusly do not have have all the tools I wish I had. I plan to get a welder and do some of the bodywork myself.

For the brakes and correct decals and transmissions with matching numbres and differential if you really dont want to achieve if necessary.
The final configuration for the top restorations all assumes that is all the answer depends on.
The body work done including the transmission and interior this while its undergoing its restoration if they are in need of restoration you start is the original engines.
For the steering linkage that is to be the rework then my advice is to be the body work done including rebuilding the top restorations all have original drum brakes and transmissions with the last including the engine and suspension bushings that you have original engines and transmission and replacing the answer depends on.

The rust first you dont want that cancer spreading then start working on driveability enhancements.

An air ratchet impact blow gun 3 cut rivit etc etc etc with something that will go down to car re paint crossmember replace suspension bushings replace brake and have one then by all the rust repair start at the front cross member.
The car up on stands drop the underside of car and up to interior engine paintbody last dont already have one for.
An argon bottle and weld in the inside and weld in new panels pull the front cross member clean all the underside of car its self get to front cross member clean crossmember install back in new bushings you an argon bottle and treated along with something that will go down to front paint crossmember replace suspension brakes etc with argonco2 next part try not.
